Jacqui Carrel
Jacqui is one of the founding partners in Cinnamon Edge and is a successful author, educator, coach and marketer who enjoys sharing her knowledge and helping you to succeed as well.
Knowledge
After all this time, we know our stuff. We’ve accumulated a lot of knowledge by trial and error as well as the formal training and courses we’ve undertaken.
Listening
Although we know a lot, we don’t know everything about your business. That’s why one of our primary skills is the ability to listen to what you tell us about your business, market and experiences.
Marketing
The core of our business is marketing in various forms and the main benefits to you are increased sales, profits and security in your business.
Networking
One of the main ways we’ve found clients in the past is through networking and we recommend networking to many of our clients. We’ve even written books about it.
Optimisation
Search Engine Optimisation and website optimisation are major parts of our business. Both will help you to get improved results and better value from your website.
Practical
Everything we do has practical benefits and not just theoretical results. Very often we’ll show you how to contribute in a practical way if you choose to.
Questions
We often start with a series of questions to establish your situation, and we’ll listen to your answers. We’re also more than happy to answer your questions.
Roy Everitt
The other founding partner is also a published author and has conducted workshops as well as training clients one-to-one in various marketing and web-related skills. He also writes poetry and rides a bike.
Strategy
As well as applying a wide range of skills and techniques we will help you design a marketing strategy specific to your business. There’s no ‘one size fits all’ at Cinnamon Edge.
Training
We will conduct in-house training on demand and have run our own workshop events open to all. These have included SEO, content creation and search engine domination. More are planned.
Understanding
Because we question and listen, and because we have a business ourselves, we understand your situation, your concerns and, above all, your potential. You can grow with Cinnamon Edge.
Values
We value integrity and a willingness to share. We also appreciate the real value to you of good advice and excellent services at sensible prices.
Websites
We build websites, optimise websites, critique websites, write website copy and create blogs that improve the productivity and value of your company online.
X-ray Vision
Well, almost. We can look behind the obvious in your website and your business and see what’s going on in the background that might be affecting performance.
You
You are the most important person in your business and our dealings with you will reflect that. No one is a better representative of your company than you. We’ve written a book about that, too.
Zeal
We’re not obsessive but we are very keen to see our work produce real results. We often go the extra mile for our clients to make sure it does.
You don't have to go anywhere else. Call us on 01284 767193 or email info@cinnamonedge.co.uk.
On there, you can see all about our latest books, find out about our writing and editing services, and learn about how we could even publish your book for you.
We'll also be adding 'reviewing' to our list of services - where we assess your book or other copy and offer helpful advice to help you polish it up before publication. That includes writing style, puctuation and grammar, and so on.
Our catalogue of books now numbers over a dozen, including two books of poetry (5-stars on Amazon), one work of fiction (a 'page-turner' also given 5-stars) and our business books (multiple 5-stars!). More will be added in the next few days and at intervals after that.
So, if you have a book in you, we're probably the best people to help you get it out!
Here's the link to our website page where you'll find all our business books, and the others we've published under the Cinnamon Edge Publishing imprint: http://www.cinnamonedge.co.uk/publications.
Go to the site and click through to read the reviews on Amazon and to download the books. They're all at bargain prices and two of them are even free.
I was amazed yesterday when writing a news release, to realise how many books we have published in the last few weeks. The total is eight - and that's not counting a couple of bigger projects that haven't been released yet.
That might sound like a lot of writing - although we find writing to be one of the best bits of our job - but it's more the consequence of taking action, finishing several smaller projects and making our stuff available to people. There's not a lot of point knowing all about something if you don't share it, and certainly no point writing about it and then not publishing!
So, eight books it is, and we've even updated the main blog on our website, which tends to take second place to this one much of the time, to list all our books with relevant links to Amazon and Bookboon.
Books cover subjects like SEO (2), email marketing, running workshops and seminars (2), competitor analysis, starting a small practice from scratch, and more. There's even a book of poetry there - just in time for Valentine's Day!
Go to the blog or the publications page now and you'll get a nice surprise, too...
Another Helpful Book for Business Owners - Easy Competitor Analysis
When I talk about one of the services we offer, a common response is, “Competitor analysis? What’s that and why would I need it?”
Another one I get is, “And how would I do that?”
You’ll find the answers to both questions in this book! In summary, however, competitor analysis is finding out about your competitors’ businesses and applying that knowledge to your own business.
You’ll be taken step by step through how to find out what your competitors are up to, and how you can use the knowledge to your own benefit.
You’ll be surprised at what you find out.
I’ll also show you how you can outsource some of this if you’re pushed for time.
Jacqui is the 'marketing whizz' (their words) behind the amazing success of the College of Foot Care Practitioners and The Foot Care Centre Kings Lynn, in case you were wondering. The book gives a concise and clear explanation of how to get into the foot care profession (you don't need a degree, for example, and you will study anatomy and physiology). It also covers marketing and promoting your practice and where to get the best training.
We're not stopping there, though. Our second book will be published via Kindle in the next day or so (possibly even tomorrow), and it's called Simple SEO for Business Owners. The amazing results we've had with our new website SEO Suffolk are proof that our Search Engine Optimisation techniques work, and you can learn all about them in my short and concise book
There's more! We've also just sent off the two books commissioned by BookBoon. One written by me (Roy) is called Permission Marketing and concentrates on the what, why and how of email and relationship marketing, while the second, from Jacqui, is another about Search Engine Marketing and SEO. Both should be available soon.
We plan to publish a lot more this year, and January has seen us off to a flying start!
When we do Search Engine Optimisation for our clients we steer clear of the technical details and trying to explain the latest Google algorithm, because most business owners, frankly, don't care about the "how". All most of our clients want is better results for their business.
Rest assured we do all the techie stuff as well - including the bits Google isn't using now but might want to use next week - but that's really just laying the foundations for your SEO and it's not what you'll see (or care about) when we've done our job.
There's another good reason for not getting bogged down in the latest updates and techniques: concentrating on satisfying the latest guidance from Google - to the letter - means you might as well be "gaming" the system. It's this concentration on doing everything just to satisfy the latest criteria that gets Google's attention and makes them re-write the criteria in the first place. Only people dedicated entirely to SEO - meaning those trying to get the best results with the minimum useful content - work in this way. Those are the very people Google hates and the very reason they update their algorithm so often, negating millions of pounds worth of SEO worldwide as a result.
It's also why the article directories were punished so severely last year. Article directories used to be a source of good quality articles that informed the reader and made useful content for their blogs and websites, and which enhanced the reputation of the writers. Any articles posted on other sites also meant a useful backlink for the author. But SEO "experts" latched onto this and soon the article sites became a source of variable quality, often spun, articles designed to provide backlinks from the article sites themselves.
Google rightly decided that these article sites were of low value to readers and of disproportionately high value to article writers and spinners, and punished them in a major algorithm update in 2011. Other SEO "tricks" have met the same fate.
What Google really wants, and what therefore continues to work year after year, is genuinely original and relevant content with relevant links. This content is of real value to the reader seeking real information.
So, to get back to Cinnamon Edge and SEO, our system has been developed over the years to produce exactly what Google and its users actually want, and in quantity. That's why our system is more "hands on" and time consuming - because we're creating real content - and why it is more successful that a thousand links bought from an "SEO company" that might give your website a temporary boost but which won't give you the long term search engine domination that we give to our clients.
So, as well as optimised directory listings, optimised blog posts and social media updates, we write original content for your site, post original articles in the best article sites, create original videos and presentations - and more. That's how our clients don't just get onto page one - as they might with any old SEO - they actually get to dominate the search results with multiple listings on the first two pages. You can imagine how much more valuable that is!
Download our case study that shows exactly how this worked for one of our clients and then imagine what it could do for your business.
Yes, SEO still takes skill and we probably don't charge as much as we should for this service, considering its value, but that's our loss, not yours!
So, if you think you might want SEO (but actually want more business) contact us for Search Engine Optimisation and we'll do our best (and our best is very good!) to help.
Roy
PS. There is one "techie bit" that we do put more emphasis on. Not because it matters for Google SEO (at least this week) but because it makes an enormous difference to your results. I'll explain that next time.
After such a quick move there was a lot of sorting out and decluttering to do. We have to thank Mark Byford and Gary Spencer of Crack on!! who supplied the van and heavy lifting on the day (seven trips!) and so it was easy to decide where all our surplus stuff would go. Mark has already been back twice with the Crack on!! van to collect for their new warehouse/shop in Thetford.
But now Cinnamon Edge are back into the swing of things, we've almost stopped tripping over boxes, and we're ready to help you with your business' marketing just as soon as you want to call the new number!
NEWS RELEASE – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Cinnamon Edge
As part of their Towergate Accumulator Challenge fundraising activities for St Nicholas Hospice Care, Cinnamon Edge held a successful Content Writing and Marketing workshop last week at the Farmers Club in Bury St Edmunds.
Jacqui Carrel, a writer and marketer, ran the workshop. ‘The whole day was fun: I enjoyed running the proceedings, not least because I had lovely people to work with. The best part was seeing how the group, using the techniques I taught them, produced some great pieces of writing in a very short time.’
Delegates enjoyed the relaxed, information and activity packed day-long session. Said attendee Linda Birnie, ‘Content Marketing was a very enjoyable one day workshop covering many ways of advertising your business. The format was very relaxed and interactive and I came away with several new ideas and constructive techniques for writing advertorials, web pages and general articles.’
Roy Everitt, partner in Cinnamon Edge, helped with the workshop. He says, ‘This is just one of the things we are doing for the Challenge, which we have dubbed ‘The Fifty Quid Challenge’. Cinnamon Edge intends to carry on raising money in a variety of ways. We have even built a site around it: http://www.thefiftyquidchallenge.co.uk
100% of ticket proceeds went directly to the Hospice, helped along by generous donations from other Bury St Edmunds businesses. The Farmers’ Club donated the room and coffee, Bedford’s estate agent donated lunch, and Peatling’s and Munning’s supplied soft drinks and delicious afternoon tea scones respectively.
Friday 20th May is the last day for delegates to sign up for our Search Engine Domination Workshop and claim their free bonus - worth the full price of the workshop, even if they get in for a reduced price.
In other words, a sole trader or anyone buying more than one ticket, will get back a bonus worth more than they pay for their place at our June 9th event.
Our Search Engine Domination Workshop will be crammed full of useful, 'actionable' information and tips, plus printed notes and cheat sheets, and more. But to get your own video, ready for optimising and posting on YouTube, your website and your blog (we'll show you how), you MUST register before midnight on Friday 20th May.
At the workshop you will:
Learn how to claim multiple places in the search engine listings (displacing or 'squeezing out' your competitors), appear all over the web and take control of your company's reputation and your market - all in one morning.
The standard price for this priceless knowledge is just £97 - and there are a limited number of special deals for sole traders.
Buy multiple tickets (for more than one delegate on June 9th or to attend more than one of our events) and you can have a generous discount. Call us for more information on 01284 753 912.
The workshop is at The Self Centre, Kempson Way, Bury St Edmunds, and runs from 9.am to around 12.30 on Thursday 9th June.
We also understand it's not always possible to match your calendar of events with ours, which is why we will also run bespoke training sessions at your place of work (or an alternative venue if your premises are unsuitable). Please request a quote.
Our exclusive business writing workshop takes place on 23 March and looks likely to be filled pretty quickly, but if you're quick you can still secure a £17 discount for the one-day event.
That means you pay just £130 to discover how you can write more effective

BUSINESS OWNERS ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE IN BURY ST EDMUNDS
A select group of local business people were treated to an absorbing morning of online marketing knowhow at Cinnamon Edge’s first Challenge Workshop in Bury St Edmunds on Wednesday, in aid of St Nicholas Hospice Care.
The workshop, the first in a series planned by local marketing experts Cinnamon Edge, included priceless information on how your website can make money instead of costing you money, how to get Google to send customers straight to your door, how to totally dominate your market and how to become an ‘authority’ in your area of expertise.
Jacqui Carrel and Roy Everitt, partners at Cinnamon Edge, presented the workshop to an attentive audience, which also included representatives from Bury St Edmunds Chamber of Commerce and St Nicholas Hospice itself.
Billed as the first Challenge Workshop, it was part of the firm’s contribution to the Towergate Accumulator Challenge, through what Cinnamon Edge has dubbed ‘The Fifty Quid Challenge’.
Afterwards, attendees described the event as ‘excellent and very well presented’, ‘fantastic’ and, ‘a great training workshop’.
Roy Everitt was pleased with how it went and was especially thrilled to be able to contribute to the hospice through the Towergate Challenge. ‘We’ve been planning some workshops for local business owners for a while, and the Towergate Challenge was a great incentive to finally find the time to do it’, he said, and added, ‘We really wanted to help local businesses, but contributing to the hospice as well made it doubly worthwhile.’
Online marketing is not Jacqui and Roy’s only area of expertise but they have become known as the local specialists.
The event raised about £400 for the hospice and Cinnamon Edge are happy to accept further donations through their dedicated website www.thefiftyquidchallenge.co.uk, which will be open for the duration of the challenge and for some time afterwards.
The next workshop is planned to take place in September.
We need to confirm the exact details, but our first Challenge Workshop is now planned for week commencing 16 August.
The theme will once again be 'How to Dominate Your Market Using Tactics 99% of Business Owners Don't Know About' and the workshop will run from about 9.am to 12.30 or thereabouts.
* We do ask for a donation and £50 minimum will guarantee you a place if you're in the first 12 to book. Donate more if you like - every penny will go to the hospice.
Why would a local business worry about being found on the front page of a global search engine like Google?
Well, if you haven't kept up with recent developments with Google and their rivals, that might seem like a very good question. After all, if you own a flower shop in Bury St Edmunds, why would you bother to compete with a florist in San Francisco or Santander?
No reason at all. But you might want to think about the three or four other florists in the town and the dozen or more in Stowmarket, Newmarket, Thetford and Sudbury.
And the mighty Google will happily promote all those businesses above yours if you let it!
That's because Google can tell where its users are and tries its utmost to deliver results that are relevant to them, especially if they give it a helping hand by specifying something like 'florist bury st edmunds'.
Well over 90 percent of people using a search engine will visit a website they find on page one.
So your business needs to be there.
Which is why getting a client's site onto page one for every relevant search term for Bury St Edmunds counts as a success. Getting them on page one for many of those searches for the whole of Suffolk is pretty satisfactory, too!
That's why Bury St Edmunds Online is such a success. We don't need to be big and we're certainly not flashy, but we do get great results!
